We’ve been getting a lot of questions about where Onward FX is headed next. Onward FX is the platform we built to connect founders with institutional investors, and for the fall cycle we’ve widened the room to include corporate strategics and CVCs across industrial, energy, aerospace, and dual-use. People want to know why.

The short version is that we’ve been following the data for a while, and it kept pointing the same direction. The most common outcome for a venture-backed company isn’t the billion-dollar exit that makes the headlines. It’s a nine-figure acquisition, often an eight-figure one, and for companies building physical things, the buyer is almost always a corporate strategic. The deals are also moving inland, toward the industries these companies are built next to. We want to build the thing that shortens the distance between a founder and the buyer who will eventually define their outcome, because that distance is what decides how long an exit takes and whether liquidity ever shows up.

I wrote an essay laying out the numbers behind this, the median exit, the fund math that makes the most common outcome invisible to the biggest funds, and the one variable that compresses the whole timeline.
